I live in the foothills of North Carolina with my wife and son. I have worked in the high-demand technology field for 25 years and thoroughly enjoy it. However, I quickly realized the need for an outlet to disconnect from daily technology. In January 2005, I enrolled in a continuing education woodworking class at Wilkes Community College. At that time, I didn’t know the difference between soft and hardwoods; how to identify the woods; or have the ability to operate simple woodworking tools. During my first semester, I fell in love with the craft and began honing my skills under the direction of a master craftsman and my mentor, Dwight Hartzog of Hartzog’s Woodworks. Since 2005, I have continued to build my skills and grow my hobby, which ultimately led to the creation of TranquilWoods in 2023. The creation of TranquilWoods allows me to highlight my handcrafted woodworking and allows folks to learn more about and purchase custom-made woodworking.
Each TranquilWoods build is unique and crafted with the care and attention you would expect from handcrafted woodworking. It takes time to ensure that the beauty of the wood is reflected when crafted and finished by skilled hands. However, wood is a natural material that will have imperfections and can have unique characteristics. That is what makes each TranquilWoods build memorable and enjoyable for many generations.
